Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

This summer, several Parishes in Gosport are being merged, so that the whole Church can serve the people of the town better.

As part of this scheme, St John’s Church will change its legal status from a Parish Church to a “mission hub” working across the whole town.  Sunday services will remain the same, but the new arrangements will also give us more freedom to explore different kinds of worship, events and groups and to make better use of the Church building.

The area of the current Parish of Forton will be part of a new, bigger Parish covering the whole of the South of the town (taking in the areas which are currently covered by Holy Trinity and Christchurch Parishes).

We don’t yet know exactly when these changes will come into effect, but it will be sometime between May and July 2020.

Under the new arrangements, St John’s will still be able to do weddings, Christenings and funerals for people who have a very strong connection with the Church.  Everyone living in Forton will still be able to arrange a wedding, Christening or funeral with the clergy of the new Parish; these could take place at either Christchurch, Stoke Road or Holy Trinity, Trinity Green, which will be the Parish Churches.

If you already have a wedding or Christening booked at St John’s, even if it’s after July 2020, don’t panic – we will honour all existing bookings, regardless of whether you’re a Churchgoer or not.

If you have any questions or you’d like more information, please do contact us.

Open Church

On the first Wednesday of every month, the Church is open from 7:00 until 9:00 pm for anyone to come in, light a candle, pray, reflect, drink coffee, chat or just be.  Everyone is welcome – please do drop in!

Good Stuff coming up…

Before anyone invented Google calendars or Facebook events, the Church had its own way of letting everyone know the dates of things: the Epiphany Proclamation.
