Congratulations on your engagement!

If you’re interested in getting married at Saint John’s, your first step is to come to the Parish Office hour, which is held in the Church between 11:00 am and midday most Saturdays.  There you can have an informal chat with Mother Carrie, look around the Church building, and book your date if you’d like to.  You don’t need an appointment, so just drop in!

In the meantime, here are some questions that people often ask us:

Do I have to be a Churchgoer?

No.  If you live in the Parish of Forton, or you have a connection with Saint John’s (for example, your parents were married here or you used to be a Church member), then you are entitled by law to get married here.

I’m divorced – can I still get married in Church?

Yes – usually.  Come to the Parish Office hour and have a chat with Mother Carrie.

How much does it cost?

The legal fee for a wedding in Church is £445 in 2015.

There are also some optional extras – organist, flowers, service sheets, etc.  You can download a list at the bottom of this page,  or get one when you come to the Parish Office.

The final total will depend on exactly what you want, but it won’t be more than £590.  We’re happy for you to pay in instalments so that you can spread the cost over time, or you can pay it all in one go if you’re feeling rich!

Can we play our own CDs / scatter rose petals / have our kids as bridesmaids / arrive in a forklift truck… etc… ?

Probably…!  It’s your day, and we will do everything we can to make it personal and special for you.  Of course, there are some things that it’s just not possible or appropriate to do in a Church, but so far we have never had a request that we’ve had to refuse.  So, if it’s always been your dream to get married in flippers or have your dog as a page boy, just ask.  The answer will probably be yes!
